REV. N. D. BURKLEY, SR. & Family

Rev. Norris D. Burkley, Sr. is the Pastor of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church located on the beautiful island of Galveston, Texas. He accepted Christ at the early age of five years old and accepted his call to the ministry in 1981 under the pastorate of Rev. F. N. Williams, Sr. at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. He has and continues to serve faithfully in various other ministerial capacities. In 1978 Pastor Burkley graduated from Jack Yates High School in Houston, Texas. Post-secondary schooling convened at Prairie View A&M University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1986. He has also attended Central Bible College. The day of April 5, 1986 became a joyous day as he united with Ms. Debra Gail Bacon. From their union, two loving boys, Norris D., II and Mark A., II, were brought into the world. In 1986 Pastor Burkley served as pastor of the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Navasota, Texas until he was called by the congregation of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in March 1994. Under his leadership many souls have been saved and restored into the fellowship of Jesus Christ. Pastor Burkley is the 1st Vice-Moderator of the Fellowship United District Association of Texas, member of the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas, Independent Missionary Baptist General Association of Texas, National Fellowship of Churches, National Missionary Baptist Association, Baptist Ministerial Alliance, and Galveston Baptist Association. Pastor Burkley not only works for the good of his congregation but also for the benefit of the Galveston community. He is diligent in his efforts by continually offering community activities, hosting community meetings, and working with city, county, and state officials to help others acquire and maintain a beneficial life for themselves and their community. In 2006, Pastor Burkley established Rebound Central Carver Park, a non-profit outreach ministry, which will act as a resource center for low income and under privileged families in Galveston. His perseverance to ensure a better quality of life for others is it spiritually, physically, or economically, is always at the forefront of his ministry. His leadership as a pastor and community activist is one to be admired. In any circumstance or situation, you will always be able to find Pastor Burkley serving with a tender heart and a compassionate spirit.
